Edmund Gwenn is an English actor. In the cinema, for his role as Kris Kringle in the Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street is best remembered, he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Golden Globe respectively. He received a second Golden Globe and another Oscar nomination for the comedy Mister 880. He is also remembered for starring in four films directed by Alfred Hitchcock. As a West End and Broadway theater actor, he has been with many of the works of modern playwrights, including Bernard Shaw, John Galsworthy and J. B. Priestley. After World War II, he lived in the United States, where he had a successful career in Hollywood and Broadway.
